Bugs hate rain. It isn’t safe for them. So, where do bugs go when they need shelter from a downpour? Anywhere they can, which means that if there’s a way into your house, they will find it. And once they’re in, they will probably like it – dry, warm, possibly easy food sources. There may not even be clear signs that the insects are even there until there is a serious infestation. To experts in concealing themselves are termites and cockroaches. If undetected, termites can cause critical damage to your home. And cockroaches are just disgusting and extremely difficult to kill.

Are Cockroaches Sharing Your Kitchen?

“The best defense is a good offense,” or so the saying goes. In other words, it’s time to take preventative measures, if you haven’t already. First off, thoroughly inspect your home for signs of termite damage inside and out – tiny holes in wood, mud tunnels on the outside of the house, sawdust around doorframes or base boards, or buckling paint. Then, you have a few options for termite prevention: poison around your house or injected into your walls or termite bait traps. As far as cockroaches, your first defense is to check for means of entry. Look for gaps and holes in baseboards and around any piping that goes outside and inspect any vents that connect to the outdoors (for example, in your attic) to be sure they are properly sealed. Next, keep your home clean, including hard to reach and hard to see places like behind the refrigerator and keep food properly stored. Learn more about unwelcome pests and how you can control them.
