Studies have shown that nuts, including hard-shelled foods are very nutritious and good for health, particularly heart health.

Now, new research focused on the hard nuts found that, between them, the nut is a natural product “almost perfect ” for their high level of antioxidants and proteins.

In addition to its nutritional benefits, these products contain high levels of polyphenols,antioxidant chemicals that help the body to counteract the effects of molecules thatcause oxidation and damage to cells.

 

Past studies suggest that regular consumption of these nuts may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, certain cancers anddiabetes mellitus type 2.

 

More and better antioxidants

According to scientists at the University of Scranton, Pennsylvania (USA), including all hard-shelled nuts, nuts contain a combination of antioxidants increased in number and quality than any of them.

The study, which was presented at the Annual Meeting of the American Chemical Society, examined the levels of nutrients in nine types of hard nuts, walnuts, pistachios, almonds, peanuts (groundnuts), Brazil nuts, pine nuts, cashew (cashew nuts in India or in different countries), macadamias and pecans.

All these products are rich in nutrients such as vitamin E, minerals, and monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Scientists found that the nut contained more antioxidant polyphenols than any other fruit.

“We found that is above the peanuts, almonds, pecans, pistachios and other nuts, ” says Dr. Joe Vinson, who led the study.

“A handful of walnuts contains almost two times more antioxidants than an equivalent amount of other hard-shelled nut that is commonly eaten. ”

“But unfortunately people do not eat enough nuts. And this study shows that it should take more of this product as part of a healthy diet”, adds the researcher.
