Why the Tower of Pisa leaning?
In August of 1173 was begun in the city of Pisa‘s tower that bears his name, and that over the centuries has become an emblem of Italy. The real cause of the inclination of the tower, whose height is 56 meters, three meters insufficient foundation on which it was built. Nothing more to begin construction (which took two centuries), the ground began to give way until then. Over time various measures were taken to correct the deviation, but without success.
Currently, the tower is in a critical condition, and that their inclination is 3.97°, extending 4 meters from the vertical. In 1990 it was closed to the public to the imminent danger of collapse. For a decade, were carried out several projects to prevent the collapse of the tower. In 2001, after removing the basement, the tower was reopened. Is expected to remain stable over the next 300 years.
Oddly enough, the Leaning Tower of Pisa is not the building more uneven. It is housed in a small German town of Saxony, Suurhusen. It is a chapel with a 5.07 ° slope and holds the Guinness record.
