Situation

On Sunday, 6,899 new deaths and 338,275 infections were registered in the world. The countries that registered the most deaths according to the latest official balances are the United States with 1,447, Brazil (522) and Mexico (414).

The number of deaths in the United States amounts to 463,470 with 27,007,399 infections. After the United States, the countries with the most fatalities are Brazil, with 231,534 deaths and 9,524,640 cases, Mexico, with 166,200 deaths (1,932,145 cases), India, with 155,080 deaths (10,838,194 cases) and the United Kingdom, with 112,465 deaths (3,945,680 cases).

Among the hardest hit countries, Belgium has the highest mortality rate, with 185 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, followed by Slovenia (174), the United Kingdom (166), the Czech Republic (162) and Italy (151).

On Monday at 11:00 GMT and since the beginning of the epidemic, Europe added 773,603 deaths (34,583,333 infections), Latin America and the Caribbean 618,817 (19,571,506), the United States and Canada 484,230 (27,811,116), Asia 244,713 (15,485,726), Middle East 99,391 (4,923,225), Africa 95,113 (3,673,806) and Oceania 945 (31,792).

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of tests carried out increased considerably and tracking techniques improved, leading to a rise in reported infections.

However, the number of diagnosed cases only reflects a part of all infections since less severe or asymptomatic cases remain undetected.
